Congress recently passed new legislation governing the transmission of both local and distant network broadcast stations over satellite systems and in November of 1999, President Clinton signed it into law. This law now provides for a new process by which waivers to receive a distant network signal are to be transmitted to local stations through the subscriber's satellite carrier.

Pursuant to the new law, your waiver request should be addressed to your satellite carrier, which can forward it to us if they believe it has merit. Under the new law, WSET-TV no longer accepts waiver requests from subscribers. We are pleased to inform you, however, that under the new legislation your satellite provider may immediately begin to carry WSET's signal to your home.

We encourage you to contact your DBS provider and request that they carry WSET on their system so that you are able to enjoy ABC network programming as well as WSET local programming. We look forward to serving you in the future and to providing both network and local programming to you and the entire viewing area.
